The nights of the Nativity in Alba

In the weeks preceding the Christmas, the city of Alba tells a story of faith and hope, ancient and ever new: the birth of the child Jesus. Alba mette in scena il Nativity, showing once again to be a centre of culture and food not only, but artistic too, religious and historical.
The streets and squares of the historic centre will host again this year a reconstruction surrealist of the crib to tell the story of the Holy Family in four evenings, from the Annunciation to Mary, Adoration of the shepherds. An evocative depiction of ancient history, with Roman camps, the legionaries and Gladiators for the Governor Quirinus, craft shops, taverns of shepherds and fishermen and pastures with animals, music, danze, trapeziste angels and folk tales. A play always new, different and enchanting, full of magic and surprises.

Quest’anno saranno presenti ospiti musicali importanti come Irene Fornaciari and Antonella Ruggero. Nel programma anche un’occasione unica per tutti gli amanti dell’ Art: una prestigioso percorso espositivo sul tema della Natività.

Dall’8 dicembre 2012 to the 6 January 2013 il centro storico di Alba diventerà una suggestiva galleria d’arte! “Il Tempo della Natività” sarà un’occasione per riflettere sul soggetto madre dell’iconografia cristiana, riprodotto, con infinite varianti, lungo tutto il corso della storia dell’arte, non solo come espressione dell’artista credente. In un’epoca relativistica come la nostra, il fatto che la Natività continui a essere celebrata, costituisce una sfida avvincente. Il tempo sarà inteso sia come testimonianza storica, teologica e artistica della nascita di Gesù, in traditional representations suggested by sacred texts, and as a moment of coming to the world, the most important moment of the life of man in every culture and religion, the beginning of the journey towards death through life, in modern and contemporary artistic statements. The works will be divided into three exhibition venues of historic albese. Nel Palazzo della Fondazione Banca d’Alba in via Cavour saranno in mostra prestigiose opere pittoriche e scultoree di arte sacra raccolte dall’antiquario Ivan Sandri. Three Pinot Gallizio's works will be, as a primordial sky, the scenic backdrop of a precious medieval sculpture. To view the photographs of Nan Goldin in the work “Infinity to the Maternity”, important loan of Brown and Matthew Viglietta LaGaia collection of Busca (www.collezionelagaia.it). Another section of the exhibition contains the artist's own Raluca Andreea Hartea. The artist will develop the theme of the Nativity in the choir of the Church of the Magdalene in road, through an ensemble of evocations and many striking techniques. In the staircase of the Town Hall in piazza Duomo, then, Christmas will be told through the works of top artists of our land, in a path that will lead to the Council Chamber where the “Madonna and child, Angels, Saints Francis and Thomas Aquinas and two donors”, tempera su tavola dipinta da Macrino d’Alba. In the exhibition the valuable circuit “Madonna del latte” , la Natività trecentesca dipinta da Barnaba da Modena, oggi custodita nella chiesa di San Giovanni.
