Born in 1999 was the first Piedmont wine route. When you exit Asti towards South you enter Astesana a very old land with tens of castles a testimony of many small capital and many illustrious houses. Astesana the most fruitful part of the province of Asti; over 50 countries and cities on average a stone's throw from 3 at 5 Miles between them are an invitation to walks.
Alone this earth produces a third of the Piedmontese wine and is the most prolific among the 8 geographical areas that have made the history of Piedmont (Alto Monferrato, Monferrato, Colli Tortonesi, Langhe, Roero, Canavese, Carema, Ghemme and Gattinara nebbioli North) but the characteristic of these hills is the qualitative excellence of products, in a very wide range, that covers the entire range of gastronomic service: from sparkling brut to dry white wines, the reds from different types of read to those designed for aging, White and Red aromatics, including dry type, to conclude with the spirits (especially grappe).
We triumph the Barbera and aromatics Muscat and Brachetto; here was born the Sparkling Wine Italian; Here we produce brandy and the only Italian goat cheese doc, the Robiola, vegetables from legend and truffles more perfumed in Piedmont.
The wine route took the old name of Astesana and put it to protect Eight routes, all secondary roads and pipes tranquille, exceedingly panoramic views, on the crest of hills, that call here “the hills of quality“. More than 300 are the wineries largely private, some cooperatives, open to visit, the tasting, to purchase.
Always In these countries are characterized by a castle or a torre, from churches imposing or timidly looking out on the streets of crossings campaign, the biggest surprise for the visitor is given by gastronomy, especially in restaurants and in holiday house But even in shops grocery store.
Canelli is the city in which two hundred years ago was invented spumante Italian sparkling wine and aromatic "Asti" (that still is the leader of Italian wines in the world, with nearly 100 millions of bottles a year). Among the dry wines is to quote the brand-new "Alta Langa" doc, produced in the Langa Astigiana vineyards all grown over the 500 metres above sea level.
The most important wine in Astesana (over 30 millions of bottles a year) is the Barbera d'Asti, Big Red contentment of the palate, very flexible: There are different types of Barbera fresh and younger, ready to drink, but above all there is a classical typology, vital to the 5-6 years old; If it appears on the label the words "higher" Barbera d'Asti has had a prolonged ageing in wood (small or large) e in bottiglia, for the purpose of obtaining greater longevity. After the harvest 2000 Barbera d'Asti is available called "Nice"with reference to a special area comprising Nizza Monferrato and other 17 Municipalities.
From the same varietal are other doc: Barbera del Monferrato (younger and sometimes slightly sparkling), Piemonte Barbera, Monferrato Rosso (Assembly between more types of grapes). Other red wines of Astesana are Dolcetto d'Asti, Freisa d'Asti, Grignolino d'Asti, Monferrato Dolcetto, Monferrato Freisa, Piemonte Grignolino.
The white wines of Astesana are Cortese dell'alto Monferrato, Monferrato, Piemonte Chardonnay, Piemonte Cortese. Very rich aromatic proposal: first of all the Muscat d'Asti, commonly called to distinguish it from natural sparkling Asti: These are the finest grapes and the grape name selected, the vignaioli di Astesana love produce, often with the mention of the name of the vineyard, as rare, of high quality, sometimes vendemmia tardiva. Moscato is also the grape Loazzolo, Special and expensive wine, produced only in the homonymous municipality from dried grapes (less than 10 thousand bottles, small form-factor). Also in this area are the Brachetto d'acqui and Piemonte Brachetto, Red aromatic, pale in color and mild flavor, produced also in sparkling form.
Grappa and distillates of grapes are an important tradition in Astesana, where operating 5 distillerie; the main types of grappa are obtained from grapes barbera and moscato; very qualified selections brought to slow aging in wood.
