At 31 km far from Asti and 29 km far from Turin, the village lies at the northwestern end of the province of Asti, on a hill slightly high, near the confluence of the Nevissano and Bardella.
It's’ the land of Saints: here were born St.Giovanni Bosco, founder of the Salesians, St. Giuseppe Cafasso, Blessed Giuseppe Allamano; St. Domenico Savio died in the village Mondonio.
A village rich in history, that has its roots in Middle Ages, with the hystorical centre of Castelnuovo, of Mondonio, with the old farms of the villages of Morialdo, Nevissano and Ranello: guardians of the civilization of the Monferrato.
It's a town rich in evidence historical and- artistic: the Eighteenth-century parish of St. Andrea preserves a painting by Guglielmo Caccia, il Moncalvo, the small Romanesque church of St. Eusebio and the medieval Rivalba Castle.
Many people, however, come to Castelnuovo Don Bosco primarily to visit the imposing sanctuary dedicated to St. Giovanni Bosco, the apostle of youth who was born and worked here. Also the home of the Holy, in the hamlet of Becchi, is a favorite destination of tourists and pilgrims that contains information on the Salesian presence in the world and lifestyle of a peasant time. The house is surrounded by other religious buildings, which help to consider this country as one of the major centers of the Salesians in Italy and beyond.
The territory of Castelnuovo there are three beautiful Romanesque churches: the Church of St. Eusebio along the road to Berzano, the Church of Santa Maria on the hill of Cornareto and Church of Santa Maria of Raseto near the eighteenth-century farmhouses in the hamlet Garesio of Mondonio.
It's’ interesting to follow the paths of nature in the Muscandia Valley and in the woods of Valpinzolo, along the range and area 18 del Colle don Bosco, where there is the rural cottage where he lived during his childhood Giovanni Bosco and where you can visit the Museum of Ethnography and of the Salesian Missions and nineteenth Farming traditions.
You can taste Freisa and Malvasia, in the Cantina Sociale del Freisa and wine cellars and restaurants of the territory.
